Our story began in 1955, when Stewart Matter Sr. started his career as a sales representative for the Simmons Mattress Company. In 1958, after years of traveling across multiple states, he made the pivotal choice to open a furniture showroom in his hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana, so he could be home with his family each night. After many successful years, Stewart relocated his family to Fort Myers, Florida, where the next chapter of the Matter legacy began. In time, his sons — Stewart II, David, Tom, John, and Gary — joined the business, helping grow it into one of the Top 100 furniture retailers in the country.
