Color Theory: Evergreen Fog Lifts 2022
Evergreen Fog drifted into the new year with a relaxing take on green in 2022.
Sherwin-Williams describes its latest color of the year as “a versatile and calming hue, a chameleon color
of gorgeous green-meets-gray, with just a bit of blue.
“We chose Evergreen Fog based on our research of design trends from around the world. We’ve been seeing
that neutrals are warming up, sustainability and organic living are key design trends, and organic textiles and
natural materials are huge in home and design right now,” Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at
Sherwin-Williams, told Real Simple.
Whether you prefer coastal chic or modern farmhouse decor, we’ll walk you through five design ideas wrapped
around this soothing hue.
1. Begin with a Neutral Foundation
Just like curating a capsule wardrobe, grounding your Florida home’s style in a neutral base offers the flexibility
to introduce trending colors, patterns, finishes and textures.
And, investing in quality furniture in timeless tones leaves room for accessorizing with seasonal home decor.
Think tan, beige, taupe, greige, grey and white as a foundation.

The more natural the furnishings, the more versatile your accessorizing can be. Wooden tables, caned chairs and leather
sofas provide an earthy aesthetic that welcomes the addition of any shade, including Evergreen Fog.
2. Spark Interest with Accents

If you don’t want to commit to painting an entire wall or room, you can add subtle accents of Evergreen Fog to
your space instead. Here’s how:
Textiles – Sheets, blankets, curtains, throws, tablecloths and towels are simple ways to add color to any room.
Layering fabrics in different textures, as well as colors, can bring life to your neutral scheme.
Accessories – Vases, candle holders, art, glass and cookware in green hues can add a warm, yet soothing touch
to your Florida home. Light some scented candles in a translucent glass for a luxurious feel in your bedroom or
elevate a study with an opaque material, like a porcelain vase or a patinated sculpture.
Front Door – Paint your entranceway in this take on green to represent new beginnings.
“Evergreen Fog is a sophisticated wash of color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade,”
says Sherwin-Williams’ Wadden. Feel refreshed every time you step inside your home.
3. Let Nature Do the Work

As the world’s best designer, nature organically produces patterns, textures and colors. The color spectrum of plants
and sheen of stones can unite Evergreen Fog in your Sunshine State home.
Plants – Easily incorporate more color into your design with foliage. Sage, Eucalyptus and Rosemary are beautiful
plants that marry varied textures with variations of grey and green tones. All are beautiful companions to neutrals –
and Evergreen Fog.
Natural Gemstones – Moss agate, Seraphinite and jade bring character and another dimension to your home.
All are expressions of green – some with delicate grey and white gradations. Display clusters of stones or art inspired
by gems to invite organic sensibility into your space.
4. Harmonize Hues

Choose a complementary print or tapestry to include in your decor. Consider your color selection on a customizable
accent chair, sofa slipcover or rug to create interest and flow.
5. Floor to Ceiling Evergreen Fog

Make a statement in your home by painting an accent wall or decorating an entire room in Evergreen Fog.
Paint – Evergreen Fog has the life force of green and the tranquility of grey in exquisite balance. Living rooms,
bedrooms, nurseries and libraries can benefit from its relaxed yet inviting presence.
Wallpaper – Beautiful when used in print, Evergreen Fog can add a fresh perspective to traditional patterns.
Florals, geometric shapes and abstract forms find intriguing conversation with this understated addition of
blue-grey-green.
Flooring, Walls and Countertops – Beautiful in a backsplash or countertop, Evergreen Fog would be a peaceful
addition to any coastal bathroom. Or include the earthy shade in your rug or tile.
