The Newest Home Design Trends
Whether you are ready to redecorate or moving into a new place with a clean slate, every home improvement project starts with finding a little inspiration. You could search the internet far and wide for tips and ideas, or peruse Pinterest for hours and hours, but we’ve made your search easier by compiling the best of the latest trends in home design right here:
Light fixtures
Artisanal fixtures are in! Draw the eye of guests with statement lighting sprinkled throughout your home. Tip: most dome lights can be removed and replaced with a fixture of your choice, allowing for maximum personalization. If you are moving into rented space, you may not be able to make changes like these, but you can still opt for lamps that make a huge style statement. When selecting lighting, go for pieces with a vintage, 60’s or 70’s appeal. Mid-century modern is a flexible style option that can be worked into most design profiles with ease.
Colors
Rather than focusing on a single color, try working with a palette of like-colors. Specifically, try working with:
- Richer color palettes: If you’re looking for a bold and dramatic look, try playing with rich jewel tones. Worried you’ll go overboard with color? Try starting with a neutral palette and sprinklings in richly-hued decor – like an area rug, a throw, or an accent chair.
- Black and White Decor: Another bold move that adds visual depth and contrast to your space. Go with this look for a balanced space that is anything but boring!
- Millennial Pink: We have all seen this being the trend in social media homes. This is a blush pink with hints of copper, and it’s not going anywhere. This does provide a warm tone in any color scheme.

Finishes
Not all that shines is good. In fact, matte-finished furniture is in right now and is perfect for creating a relaxed look. That’s not to say to do away with all metallics! Much like the rule for using jewel tones and rich hues – start with a base of neutral, matte-finished decor and finish off the room with metallic detailing such as frames, lighting fixtures, and cabinet hardware.
The Elements
Along with the move away from metallics, we’re also shifting away from the un-natural looking decor in general. Today, on-trend spaces make statements with natural materials such as stone, copper, jute and sheetrock. Natural elements like these combine to create a more serene ambiance, perfect to come home to after a long day! Pro tip: Try using elements of copper in your decor to play up your use of millennial pink – or other muted colors in your space.
If you’re stumped about incorporating natural elements, or you fear they won’t mesh well in your space, try fudging a natural look using wallpaper. Opt for an easy-to-apply wallpaper featuring floral prints or palm leaves and invite nature into your home without the mess!
The Era
Since we mentioned wallpaper previously, you may have caught on to the popularity of the vintage trend! For the ’60s and 70’s appeal that doesn’t come off as outdated, bring in warm tones, abstract silhouettes, and unique fabric like velvet and velour. Get started on this trend at our Fort Myers furniture showroom with a velvet sofa in burnt orange, forest green or mustard.
