Highlights from the High Point 2022 Spring Furniture Market

Twice a year, thousands of people flock to the High Point Market in North Carolina, home to the world’s largest home
furnishings
industry trade show. The High Point Market attracts nearly 80,000 people from over 100 countries, from
exhibitors and designers to buyers and the media. To wit: if you can’t find it in High Point, it probably doesn’t exist.

We sat down with Falyn Weinhart, Director of Merchandising at Matter Brothers Furniture and Florida Leather Gallery,
to uncover some of the biggest
furniture and design trends for 2022.

Q: Why do you attend the High Point
Furniture Market?

A: We are always on the lookout for home design trends that will inspire our clientele, whether a new fabric, texture
or silhouette. The High Point Market lets us partner with our current vendors on new product launches. It also allows
us to discover the next unique brand that fits our image and quality standards.

Q: How would you describe this trade show?

A: It’s essentially fashion week for furniture! The vendors reset their showrooms twice a year, two weeks in spring and
one week in fall. The Market provides an excellent opportunity for networking, as High Point is the global hub for furniture
retailers.

Q: What are the latest trends, and which
are your favorites?

A: High Point was blooming with natural floral arrangements and new color palettes in every showroom. Here are
some other big takeaways:

  • As an outdoor enthusiast, I am naturally drawn to woodsy elements on furniture that bring both wanderlust
interest and serenity to any living space. Organic modern style continues to be my personal favorite, and it’s a
design aesthetic with plenty of staying power. Undulating and textured woods veneered on surfaces render each
    piece of
furniture one of a kind because no two trees are alike.

wood framed accessories and tables

  • Abstract and mid-century modern art is here to stay, too. Monochromatic works in neutral palettes with lots
of texture brought depth and dimension to many of the styled spaces on display.

modern furniture and chairs

  • Globally curated looks with a moody edge continue to trend, with natural woods and charred blacks mixed
    with creamy white
upholstery. Pops of suar wood, mud-cloth accents and Indonesian fishing basket lighting
    set the tone.

eclectic chairs and tables

  • Lucite accents on occasional pieces, chairs, drawer pulls, accent tables and lamps add modern clarity and
    another layer to designs.

lucite details

  • Coastal touches of woven rattan and rope on dining and accent chairs, and occasional and accent tables, hold
    steady both indoors and out.

accent tables

  • Creamy bouclés, “bluetrals” and deeper teals and greens from rich olive to moss remain relevant. We also saw
    pops of color infused into
accent chairs and throw pillows, with neutral furnishings enlivened by warm desert
hues of coral, amber and terracotta.

  • Royalty seems to be making a big comeback, and eclectic styling reigned supreme. We saw some modern nods
    to traditional Versailles-inspired
furniture, like curved sofas, round French dining chairs, rich fabrics in blush
along with blue and green jewel tones, luxurious
chaises and plenty of tassels skirting lighting and furniture.

We also noted collectively curated and minimalistic designs in most showrooms, with oversized bowls overflowing
with bead garlands, organic materials and simple vessels filled with botanicals.

Q: What top 3 items stood out at the show?

A: There were so many exciting concepts, but these three really stood out:

  • The Erinn V. collaboration from Universal Furniture is at the top of the list. Organic, hip, minimalistic and fresh,
the collection weds natural marble and mixed metal with different wood tones. It’s the perfect mash-up of my
    favorite design elements.

  • Legacy Furniture covered so many different categories, and they nailed each one from coastal style to mountain
modern. Their showroom is impeccably styled, and they offer luxurious designs at affordable prices. We are
thrilled to be introducing some of their new collections, already ordered and coming to you soon at
    Matter
    Brothers Furniture
    .
  • We spotted some origami chairs – which remind me of old-fashioned Christmas candy ribbons – at Sunpan and
Four Hands. These chairs have an innovative design that I predict will become the next hottest trend.

Q: Which brands impressed you, and why?

A: The award for most impressive goes to Dovetail. Its bicoastal vibe makes this Florida girl feel right at home. Reggae
played in the background as we explored
root tables, woven chairs and tropical-inspired elements. It always feels like
a vacation with our cool Cali friends when we shop the Dovetail showroom.

Classic Home followed right behind. Its unparalleled leather designs are on the fringe of industrial with a military-inspired
twist. We appreciated seeing new warm oak finishes and intriguing design lines. Neon sayings like “We Made a Statement”
and “I Understood the Assignment” are other favorites of mine.

Q: Are there any new items you discovered
at this show that shoppers can expect to
find soon at a
Matter Brothers store?

A: There are plenty of new items coming to our showrooms! We have a beautiful new rectangular clamshell table from
Palecek and new product lines from Legacy and Hooker Furniture, along with many others. We can’t give away all our
trade secrets, but I can promise you a visit to any Matter Brothers showroom will be a beautiful escape from reality and
immersion into comfortable Florida living and integrated design.

Florida Leather Gallery will be a force to be reckoned with, incorporating distinct staples with our leather and exciting
oddities in accents and
decor.

We look forward to helping you design your dream living space.
