New Year, New Designs: Looking ahead to design inspiration for 2023
Design trends may come and go, but one thing remains consistent – they’re always cyclical. Keeping in mind that the most
memorable interiors are a mix of old and new, it’s easy to infuse your space with a few key pieces that capture your unique
sense of style. Whether you’re looking for a complete makeover or want to refresh your current setup, these are the design
trends ready to shine as we ring in 2023.
Ahead of the Curve

Organically shaped furniture with curved lines will reign supreme in 2023. Deviating from their straight-lined counterparts,
rounded furniture – especially sofas and armchairs – peaked in popularity during the Postmodern movement of the ’70s and ’80s.
And since everything old is new again, these shapely silhouettes are making a considerable comeback.
Curved furniture breaks up the monotony of straight lines (think rectangular coffee tables and consoles, square end tables) and
softens the overall feel of your space with fluid forms.
If you want to inject some style without totally committing to the trend, a curved accent chair like our Baldwin Swivel Chair
is perfect. A swivel feature makes it extra functional – bonus points for its durable, kid-proof upholstery that resists virtually
all stains and spills.
In the Black

There’s a reason why the little black dress never goes out of style. It’s classic, versatile and ideal for every occasion.
The same can be said about using black as an accent color.
We’re shifting away from all those safe neutrals – white included – with the pendulum swinging toward darker tones.
Black has the unique ability to instantly bring a sense of depth and drama to a room. It works well with every other
color and can either sit quietly in the background or take center stage.
It’s a shade that feels right at home amongst lighter-toned pieces, too. And you don’t need a lot. Just a touch can add
the right amount of contrast for dramatic interest.
A piece like our St. Armand Entertainment Console grounds the room with a bold dose of dark and light, with its
black base and brushed pewter metal hardware. Crafted of solid acacia, the console features a lightly distressed multi-step
finish for an authentic, artistic character. Adjustable shelves help keep media components organized, while a ventilated
back panel prevents them from overheating.
Playing with Pattern

If there were an award for patterns, stripes would win for the easiest to get along with. Available in every scale and color,
there is nothing more visually pleasing than a perfectly balanced stripe. It’s a pattern that adjusts to fit the space looking
equally at home in a modern farmhouse as it does a cozy beach cottage.
Almost any motif can mix and match with striped furniture, from checks and plaids to florals and paisleys. The key is to select
the correct color combinations and pattern proportions to create a cohesive look.
With its bold bands of blue, our Alexandria Sofa offers the perfect foundation to pile on pillows with a contrasting design in
the same soothing shades. Classic rolled arms add a touch of tradition, while slipcovers give it a relaxed, laid-back look. We
especially love the flexibility of changing out the slipcovers for washing or seasonal updates.
Work an Angle

Sculptural silhouettes and clean lines have always played a starring role in modern design, but the geometric furniture
trend for 2023 takes it a step further. Strong shapes (think square, circle, triangle, oval, hexagon) can freshen up a space
in an unexpected way, whether in the form of a straight-backed sofa or a dramatic light fixture.
Geometric design plays on the minimalist theory of less is more, offering a clever way to introduce visual interest to a space
without becoming overbearing. At once trendy and timeless, this aesthetic adds character to a room without even trying.
Illustrated in sharp angles and faceted sides, the Volker Coffee Table is a study in geometry. Displaying gorgeous
variations in tonality and grain, it’s topped with mango veneer in a sunburst pattern and finished in burnished
honey with a subtle light gray glazing.
Art-Deco Encore

Characterized by bold geometric lines, rich colors and decadent details, the art-deco movement reached its peak
popularity in western Europe in the 1920s. It’s a style that artfully balances glamour with symmetrical design,
using a luxurious mix of materials like plush velvet, sleek marble, smoked glass and lacquer to make a bold statement.
This design movement is enjoying a resurgence as we head into 2023 in the form of sleek metal bases, eye-catching inlays
and smooth marble surfaces that play up that Great Gatsby-era allure.
The Organic Modern Brighton Chair exudes an art-deco elegance with an Italian twist. The creamy linen-blend seating
appears to float within a curved silver-finished steel base that forms a sharp V-shape in the back.
Destined to become your favorite sidekick, the Butler Accent Table is perfectly proportioned with a small scale that tucks
in easily just about anywhere. A white marble base with exquisite veining supports a brushed brass-plated steel stem.
A plate of thick, tempered glass provides a perch to hold your favorite 5 o’clock cocktail.
